the new definition of an It-bag

While most brands and their respective signature designs can be rattled off by any magazine-reading fashion maven, as if the catalogue has been ingrained into the brainwashed head, there are still designers looking to make a truly coveted bag that isn't available to just anyone. Call it elitist, or maybe the next level in artistic appreciation, but Dolce & Gabbana are doing just that.

Starting this spring, they have created eleven new designs, where only ten, that's right, ten bags will be created for each style. In addition to that, there will be 41 bags, with only one style of EACH, that are created for the truly one-of-a-kind experience. These 41 bags will be made of the most precious and decadent materials, such as crocodile, python, and brocades of gold thread. No one else in the world will have that bag, and these are created for the truly wealthy who can afford them.

On one hand, if the design is truly special, of course, I wish it was available for the masses. On the other hand, I see where D&G are coming from in terms of the design aspect. It's very easy to churn out designs for mass consumption, but at these luxury prices, you ~should~, absolutely SHOULD be able to own something that no one else has, even if it's just a handbag.

Seeing the sneak peek of these very funky bags, I don't think they're what I would covet, but I can see why it would feel special to own something that is truly unique. Will more designers follow this trend? I believe it's inevitable.

Of the eleven designs, my fave is the one right below. Love that color combo! :)
