"Silly Likky, Hermès are for the serious wealthy!"

Speaking of Hermès, these have got to be the most impractical but beautiful bags I have ever seen. These are silk bags that fold into a leather pouch. When you want to use one, unzip the leather pouch, pull out the silk, and voilà, an instant tote bag, with the leather parts as your bag's bottom.

my fave design is right above :)

I love the designs. They're ornate, colorful, the art is just dazzling, really. This would be a wonderful bag to carry around in Paris when we visit in September, but knowing me, I'll probably dirty them up faster than I can finish up a mug of hot chocolate at Angelina. Like I always say, when it comes to Hermès, all I can do is dream. :P

Jen's Fab Bags...

While I'm still keen on one day of owning an Hermès Kelly in black and gold (yah, yah, I can keep dreaming), I noticed a fantastic alternative that just might not require as much $$ or as long a wait.

Jennifer Aniston has been gallivanting around the globe in not one, but two very modern and practical Hermès Massai bags. I esp. love the grey one, which looks so pretty and contemporary and clean. I have this thing where I don't like it when the straps of a bag are merely sewn on, so the fact that these handles are attached by buckles really does it for me. (Now if only the Birkin had buckles at the handles, that would make it even more perfect.)

Jennifer has always been known for her classic, clean styles, and never one to jump on trends, so the fact that she bought this style in two colors and in two different sizes shows that she sees instant longevity for this style. Anyhow, it'll be a long way before I own anything from Hermès, but it's nice to know that they have other nice designs other than the obvious "It" bags.

P.S. Notice her cute pink passport cover!

Hermès Bathtub

While Hermès is known more for their handbags, fashion, and accessories, they also do a lot of bespoke work, which means that they create many one-of-kind pieces that aren't necessarily obvious to the mind. I tend to take more showers than baths, but I was still very much in awe of this Art Deco bathtub, which is encased in Hermès engraved leather, with horses and bridles cavorting gaily throughout. The equestrian theme doesn't come to mind when I think of bathtubs, but then again, I'm not the target audience here, am I?

As a practical person, my question would be, how do you keep this tub in pristine condition if it's going to get wet from water splashing down the sides, bubbles floating on to it, or just plain humidity from a hot bath? (I guess I'm a messy bather.) If those issues don't concern you, and you have a cool $55,000 to spare, then this bathtub is an exquisite piece for the homeowner with much to spend, and fondness for Hermès.

the "It" Boy and the "It" Bag

The Boston Globe had an intriguing article on a new book that's coming out today that reveals how to get your hands on the elusive Hermès Birkin, as well as breaking all myths on the two-year waiting list that you have to wait on to get the bag.

"In his book, Tonello, 49, an Osterville native, reveals how he cracked the code for jumping the waiting list to purchase Birkins whenever he pleased. Naturally, this code has something to do with large amounts of cash. When Tonello first attempted to purchase a Birkin at Hermès, he was told that the store had none available. But when he later visited a store and spent thousands on Hermès merchandise such as scarves and jewelry, he found that stores would suddenly have the coveted Birkins in stock.

'I have seen this on more than one occasion,' he explains. 'Someone walks into Hermès, asks for a Birkin, and is told 'I'm sorry. We don't have any. There's a two-year waiting list.' Meanwhile, there is someone else in the store buying a dress, a blouse, or a pair of shoes and a wristwatch. They are pulled aside by a salesperson and told 'A client ordered a Birkin bag two years ago, and her bag has come in. She chose not to buy the bag. Would you be interested in seeing it?' Of course that woman is going to say yes. My book basically proves the waiting list is bogus.'"

And folks, I have seen it all! :p

I've wanted a Birkin for quite some time now, even though no, I do not have the discretionary income required to own such a bag. However, to know that Hermès is picking and choosing its clientele really shouldn't be a shocker either, considering how important image is to them. Better to sell to the client who will buy everything in the store than one who's been saving up for 2 years to get the cheapest, basic version of the bag, right? C'est comme ça!
